# Core concepts

Six words carry most of the product. Everything else in these docs assumes them.

## Project

The unit of work. A project holds everything one video is made of — its sources, its scenes, its
voice and avatar choices, its brand settings — and it is what you render and share. Projects live in
a workspace and can be grouped into folders.

## Source

A piece of raw material: a screen recording, an uploaded video, an image, a slide deck. Sources are
stored once in your asset library and can be used by more than one project.

## Scene

One beat of the video. A scene points at part of a source, carries its own narration line, and can
have its own effects — a zoom, a callout, a blur. Scenes are the unit you reorder, re-cut and
re-render. **This is the important one:** because a scene is independent, changing one does not
disturb the others.

## Voice

The narration identity for a project — a synthetic voice that reads your script, or the original
audio from your recording if you'd rather keep it. Workspaces can set a default so every new project
starts on-brand.

## Job

A render in progress. Rendering is asynchronous: you submit a job, Decodx estimates its cost, you
approve, and it runs in the background emitting progress events. Jobs can be watched, cancelled and
re-run.

## Share

A published link to a finished video, its guide, or both. A share carries its own permissions and
its own analytics, and can be embedded elsewhere or published onward.
